Quick Summary

XTB (formerly known as X-Trade) are a leading provider of online forex and CFD trading who have been operating since 2002. The FCA regulated broker are established in 13 countries including Poland, Germany and the UK (which is also home to their headquarters in Canary Wharf). The firm currently offer over 3000 tradable instruments across multiple asset types - including over 50 forex pairs like the EUR/USD.

With over 12 years of outstanding financial services under their belts, the broker have picked up multiple awards from the likes of Forbes and Bloomberg including “Best Forex Broker in Europe”. In 2017, the broker had a mixed year - announcing an exit from the Turkish market due to regulatory changes but also adding cryptocurrencies to their tradable assets. The new cryptos include Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin.

From a cursory glance, this broker seems to impress on almost every level - but should you invest with them? In our XTB Review, we take a look at the accounts on offer, the platform tools available and finally give your our overall verdict.

Spreads and Fees

Depending on your experience level and trading style, there are a total of three account available to new traders. Each of the accounts offer different features and spreads for optimal trading based on your skill level. The first account is the basic account, which offers new traders spreads of 2.0 pips and leverage of 200:1 (which is pretty high for what is essentially a beginner account). The main difference between this account and the others is that there are guaranteed stops in place, which is perfect for protecting yourself against significant losses. The only downside to this account is that automated trading functionality is disabled.

The next account for your consideration is the standard account which gives you the chance to benefit from floating spreads with 200:1 leverage. Spreads can start from an incredibly low 0.35 pips. Finally, we have the professional level account, giving you access to the most competitive spreads (as low as 0.28 pips) with that same high 200:1 leverage. Both of these accounts allow you to take advantage of automated trading, letting you use expert advisors to trade on certain market conditions. What we like about the XTB forex account structure is that the upper level accounts require no additional deposits - the minimum deposit is flat on all of the accounts.

Another perk for the more industrious traders is the chance of bespoke rebates for high volume trading activity. At the end of each month, their systems will calculate how much cashback you have earned throughout the month and then deposit the surplus into your account - more trades means even higher values of cashback.

Trading Platforms

New traders can choose from two platforms to start trading forex; either the ever popular and technically sound MetaTrader 4 - or the bespoke XTB solution known as xStation 5. The proprietary platform is a highly usable piece of software with a stunning user interface and all of the options you could ever need to trade.

On the left of the client is your market watch list, where you can view all of the tradable instruments available and create custom watch lists. Right click on a market and you can save it to your favourites for easy trading. On the bottom of the client you will find all of your open positions and can view a definitive order history. Finally, on the left hand side you have access to all of your market research tools and data, including the charting package. The charts are extremely impressive, allowing you to directly deal and use a range of tools to perform technical analysis. To summarise, this platform is beautifully constructed and simply a joy to use.

MetaTrader 4 however is a worthy (if not superior) option, with a familiar slick interface and lightning fast execution. You can read all about MetaTrader 4 and all of the features available in our MetaTrader 4 platform review.

Mobile Apps

If you’re a trader with a busy lifestyle, then you could opt for the XTB mobile trading app - giving you access to the world of forex trading on the go. Like the web client, the app is beautifully executed with a number of features to aid your trading. You can view your watchlists, interact and annotate data rich charts, deal directly from those charts and view real time market news directly from the application. You even have the option to download the smartwatch trading app which is available for iOS and Android.

Research Tools

XTB have imbued their trading offering with a number of special tools for traders to take advantage of any opportunity. In the web version and mobile platform, you can instantly view detailed market news and a full economic calendar to view upcoming market impacting events. Within the same app, you also get access to the extremely powerful market sentiment section - allowing you to get a sense of how the market is feeling. You can also view a list of top movers which yet again presents another potential opportunity to spot a trade. The heatmap is also another useful tool for visualising how currencies are performing against selected majors.

Bank transfer, credit/debit card and finally e-wallets (Paypal or Skrill) are all viable methods to transfer money into your XTB account. While bank and card transfers are free from broker charges, your institution could still apply fees. The e-wallets however do come with depositing fees, which is 2% of the total deposited amount. Withdrawals wise, this broker has high standards, aiming to process within one day - and they are also free (if you withdraw above your currencies threshold - please see website for details.)

Client Support

Customer service here is on another level; we were very impressed with the standard overall. From the moment we jumped on live chat, we were greeted warmly by an attentive advisor who took us through certain aspects of the account. Aside from excellent representatives, you also get access to a full FAQ which is packed with helpful resolutions to the most common problems.
